Different Jidtes of a large specimen (5199), shaped like an elongat-ed (small) turtle, the oldest chi])])e(l surface is partlyon a blue-gray and ])artly on a light-gray chert. Thelight gray by long exposure has acquired a scale whichis cream-white and glossy, its thickness being quitedistinct. That portion of this fracture surface whichextends over the blue-gray chert is not glossy nor no-ticeably patinated by decay or change of color.
