Central Synagogue 652 Lexington Avenue and 55th Street. Telephone 212-838-5122. (Tue-Wed 12:00 to 2:00 Wed 24:45 Guided visits). It is the oldest synagogue in the city still open to the public. The best temple is considered neo-Moorish style and was built in 1872 by architect Henry Fernabach, but was restored in 1999 after a major fire.
