Quechua Lady carrying goat and baby on a mountain road near Ayacucho Peru 1968


This lady from the Ayacucho area of the Peruvian Andes finds a novel way of carrying a goat,perhaps to market. The animal is in the shawl (tupu) where the baby should traditionally be but she now has to ride up front in her mothers is an agricultural valley in the highlands of Peru so the woman is probably doing some trading with the goat. Walking and working is a way of life for these people very few of whom own they have to travel a long distance then a passing lorry or bus will be flagged down for the is accepted on most transportation in Peru and in the case of buses a rack on the roof serves for both animals and overflow of passengers. see A1KTN0 and APKK62
