The A340 600 Airbus is the new long range version and provides a passenger capacity of 380 and a range of 13900 kilometres km . The A380 Airbus is the largest flying passenger airliner in the world. The twin deck aircraft can carry about 555 people which is more than the Boeing 747 jumbo built by Airbus main competitor . Built by a consortium of French British German and Spanish it is truly a symbol of international cooperation . It is a joint venture between European Aeronautic Defence and Space Company EADS and BAE Systems . These aircraft flew everyday in the air display at the Farnborough Airshow in July . The A340 600 inaugural flight took place on 23 April 2001 and achieved its type certification in June 2002 . The aircraft entered service with Virgin Atlantic Airways in August 2002 when it took its first commercial flight from London Heathrow to JFK New York Airbus headquarters is in Toulouse France . The Farnborough Airshow is held every two years at Farnborough Hampshire and is easily reached from London. It is draws tourists and businesses from all over the world.
