E. and Ardelle (Clawson)Cummings. He received his earlyeducation in the public schools ofthat city, later attending the SaltLake Business College and theacadem} at Logan, Utah. Comingto San Francisco in 1896 he attendedthe Alark Hopkins Institute of was a pupil of Douglas Tilden, thenoted California sculptor. On finishing his course at theArt Institute in 1900 ^Iv. Cummingswent abroad and pursued his studiesfor three years at Paris, completingthem at the Beaux Arts in 1903,and returning in the latter part of that year to San Francisco. Hebecame a Professor of Sculpture at the Mark Hopkins Institute ofArt and also for the University of California, and has actively con-tinued in both professorships ever since.
