Mildew is affecting the onion seed crops in the Santa Clara valley, Cal., now, but just how badly cannot be ascer- tained for some little time. Santa Clara, Cal.—A correspondent writing under date of April 27 says the following seed firms were burned out in the San Francisco disaster: Cox Seed Co.; Trumbull & Beebe; S. Vincent; C. C Morse & Co.; B. F. Wellington; Thos. Mehern. San Francisco, Cal.—The Cox Seed Co. which was burned out in the recent disaster writes that it will resume busi- ness at once and have ample capital to protect all contracts. Its new address is 108 Cole street, and special offers from the trade are desired. Government Seed Shop Wins. Washington, April 29.—The house is not hurrying over the free seed ques- tion. The most definite statement which I can now make is based on what a member told me a few days ago. He said: "They show a disposition to knock it out this ; Washington, May 2.—After great up- roar at the house this evening a test vote on rising of committee of whole showed the free seed members to be in minority. They had not quit, however. Washington, Latest.—Lamb's amend- ment for $242,920 for free seeds passed the house by a majority of 95. The vic- tory of the free seeders seems complete and final. E. S.
