On the roof of the 1493 Renaissance Torre dell Orologio also known as St. Mark’s Clock Tower, or the Moors Clock Tower are a pair of bronze figures known as the ‘Moors’ which strike the bell on every hour since the bell was cast in 1479. Below is the winged lion of Venice surrounded by a blue background of gold stars. The clock tower is on Plazza San Marco ( St. Mark's Square) in Venice in the Veneto region of northern Italy. The main archway leads into the Mercerie district (Venice’s busiest street) towards the Rialto
