(specimen in American Museum of Natural History), and probably breeds in southeastern British Columbia. The species once nested in Bermuda in 1846 (Wedderburn), but has since then been known there as a migrant only. Winter range.—The regular winter range of typical herodias ex- tends south to Micco, Fla. (Bangs) ; Castleberry, Ala. (Matthews) ; and to Camargo, Tamaulipas (Goldman). The species ranges north in winter to Raleigh. X. C. (Brimley) ; Cape Charles, Va. (Chap- man) ; and to Fayetteville, Ark. (Harvey). In mild winters some individuals remain much farther north, as far as the lower Ohio Valley (Butler) and New Jersey (Fisher), while stragglers have been noted at Randolph, N. H., December 31, 1910 (Allen) ; Milton, Vt., December 22. 1884 (Howe) ; Boston Harbor, Mass., January 1,.
