Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Cupriavidus gilardii, Gram-negative, motile, rod-shaped, soil bacterium (prokaryote). Cupriavidus gilar

Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of Cupriavidus gilardii, Gram-negative, motile, rod-shaped, soil bacterium (prokaryote). Cupriavidus gilardii, also known as Ralstonia gilardii or Wautersia gilardii, is a beta proteobacterium that belongs to the family Burkholderiaceae. It has been found in the environment and has been isolated from plants and soils contaminated with heavy metals. It is of ecological importance since related bacteria are predominant in mesophilic, heavy metal-contaminated environments. In one report is has been found to cause sepsis in a young adult. Magnification: x8,000 when shortest axis printed at 25 millimetres.
