Lower andbasal leaves spatulate, obtuse, petioled, i-l long,those of the middle part of the stem lanceolateor oblong, l-2 long, 3-4 wide, the uppersimilar, acute, sessile, gradually smaller; inflor-escence loosely cymose; pedicels slender, infruit several times the length of the calyx; flow-ers 2-3 broad; sepals lanceolate, obtuse oracutish, about one-half the length of the 2-cleftpetals; pods nodding, s-^ long, curved upward,much exceeding the calyx. In moist, shaded places. Nova Scotia and HudsonBay to North Carolina, west to British Columbia,Nevada and northern Mexico. The plant sometimesproduces capsules from apparently apetalous to 2200 ft. in Pennsylvania. Clammy chick-weed.
