Friuli Venezia Giulia, Italy. The Karst Plateau by Trieste. Mount Hermada (Grmada in Slovenian) is a low hill on the boundary between Italy and Slovenia. In the course of the WWI, it was an inexpugnable bulwark of the Austro-Hungarian Army, that defended Trieste from its top. 'Quota 280' also called 'Monte Cocco' (Nad Kokem). Austro-Hungarian observatory and artillery-place called 'Marinelle III'. The inscription says : “Marinelle III KMDT. OBTD. LUX. FAR4”. The place was supplied with a powerful searchlight, which the Italians called 'the Eye of the Hermada'.
