Sign warns of slow speed necessary due to presence of manatees in the Crystal River, Florida

Foggy morning on the Crystal River in central Florida. During the winter months, the endangered Florida manatee move down this and other Florida rivers to congregate in the warmer waters of the head springs. Manatees are unable to survive in water temperatures much below 60 degrees Fahrenheit. The biggest danger to manatees comes from human related issues. The sign warns of the presence of manatees, so as to avoid propeller strikes.
