Purchased from Scott S^- of a Private Pierre Etienne Theodore Rousseau French : 1812—1867 \5Q~EVENING IN THE FOREST OF FONTAINE-BLEAU Height, 25 inches; length, 39 inches The composition shows one of the well-made straight road-ways that traverse the beautiful Forest of Fontainebleau,running from the left foreground into the middle the opposite side of the road, the mass of the forest appearsagainst an evening sky of qualified blue in the upper portion,gradating down to warm evening tints below. On the extremeright, in the foreground, are several large trees with foliageextending into the right uj)per jjortion of the canvas. Largebowlders here and there catch the evening light and formaccents of gray which are valuable in the general scheme ofcolor. Signed at the lower left, Th. R.
