The method of Keegan, whose service in India gave unusualopportunity for practical experience in dealing with mutilations REPAIR OF DEFORMITIES OF EXTERNAL NOSE. 351 of the nose, is probably the best rhinoplastic operation, whenthe nasal bones and the skin covering them have been operator first dissects, from above downward, two flaps fromthe surface of the nasal bones and turns these down as on a hingeat the lower border of the bony nasal bridge. This gives acutaneous surface toward the open nasal chambers and a rawsurface from the root of the nose to its proposed tip. An obliquefrontal flap is then cut with its pedicle near the inner canthus ofone eye, so that it may be nourished by the angular artery. The size and exact shape of this frontal flap have been previ-ously determined by cutting a piece of rubber sheeting or a flex-ible leaf to meet the special requirements of the deformity. Thisis copied in paper and the paper fastened to the skin of the fore-head before the knife which marks out the flaps is used. The flapis then raised, its pedicle twisted, and sutures are used to fastenit over the bared nasal bones and the turned-down flaps coveringthe opening of the nose.
