Close-up of a prototype air and water filter on Shuttle Columbia. The filter is designed to remove contamination from air and water before it flows into the Shuttle's humidity seperators. This experiment, conducted during Mission STS-40 of 5- 14 June 1991, is part of Development Test Objective 647. The test was carried out by Mission Commander Bryan O'Connor and pilot Sidney Gutierrez.
