Flatiron Flyer bus enters newly reconstructed 36 at the Superior and Louisville, CO, interchange

The Flatiron Flyer is an rapid bus service between Boulder and Denver. The Bus uses the express lanes, but is the only vehicle allowed to use the shoulder when traffic congestion requires. The service was created as a compromise when promised rail service was not extended to Boulder for financial reasons. Voter residents were among those who voted a new tax to fund new light rail services throughout the Denver/Boulder area. For more information: The 36 Express Lanes Project, completed in 2016, reconstructed the highway from Federal Blvd., in Westminister, CO, to Table Mesa Dr. in Boulder. The Express Lanes Project was not directly related to the light rail effort. The $497 million 36 project created new "express lanes" where they did not previously exist, reconstructed two general-purpose lanes, rebuilt some bridges and created a commuter bikeway, seen on the right of this photo. The image was made from the pedestrian walkway by the McCaslin Rd. overpass near Superior and Louisville, CO. For more info:
