Toward end of February, sow seeds of either Jersey Wakefield, Copenhagen Market, or any other early variety, transplanting the seedlings into flats four inches apart each way as soon as they become large enough to be handled. Harden these by gradually giving them more air each day and set into rows 2j feet apart with the plants about 2 feet apart in the row; cultivate freely and water regularly if the natural rainfall proves deficient. About April 1st or as soon as the soil can be put in good condition outdoors, sow seeds of the same varieties together with some summer sorts like All Seasons, Early Summer, Suc- cession, etc. This planting will pro\'ide Cabbage from middle of July untQ late in the fall. About middle of May, sow seeds of late winter keeping varieties like Danish Ballhead, Dreer's Select Flat Dutch, and others, thinning out the plants to stand 4 inches apart in the row as soon as they are large enough to be handled. By July 1st, set these plants in rows 3 feet apart with the plants 2 feet apart in the row, cultivating and watering regularly. Should the white cabbage bug prove troublesome, sprinkle with slug shot, tobacco dust or Whale Oil Soap solution, in short, any safe remedy not containing arsenic or other poisons.
