Township car repairs, Grahamstown, South Africa
Car ownership is well above the average in some township villages of Grahamstown and here we see four cars parked on a wide roadside verge, awaiting repairs. Six men stand, observing a mechanic, in a blue work suit, servicing the nearside front wheel of an old Toyota Corolla. The car is jacked up, the wheel off and, perhaps, the break pads or discs being replaced. As the educational and economic prospects of black residents increase, car ownership is forecast to accelerate.
