Chromaticity displays. Man holding a colour cube in front of a colour chart (background) in the colours of the CIE 1931 chromaticity colour space. The CIE 1931 colour space was developed by the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) in 1931. It represents all the colours that can be perceived by the normal human eye, and is the international standard for defining colours. Individual colours are defined as a weighted sum of 3 primary colours. However, in reality no 3 primary colours can combine to give all possible colours, so virtual primary colours are used.
