On the left is the castle’s St George’s tower and on the right the castle’s motte, with a tent pitched at its summit. In the right foreground is a gentleman in a tricorn hat, frock coat and knee breeches with two ladies. Copperplate engraving by Richard Godfrey (1728 - 1795), from a drawing by Francis Grose (1731 - 1791). The engraving was published in Grose’s ‘Antiquities of England and Wales’ in 1785.
