The carved marble head and torso of Roman Army officer, 2nd Century AD, Side Museum, Turkey (Turkiye). The man, who's nose is missing, has an immaculately groomed beard without moustache and is wearing his army unifoirm. The statue was found in the ancient Roman city at Side on the sprawling site next to the Mediterranean Sea. The museum, housed in the Roman city's Great Baths, opened in 1962 and contains finds discovered by Arif Müfid Mansel, one of the pioneers of Turkish archeology, during his excavations in the Ancient City of Side.
