Physiological research. Researcher adjusting a respiration mask on a subject before he enters a pressure chamber during research into the effects that extreme conditions have on human physiology. The chamber can be used to recreate conditions of low pressure and low oxygen content (up to 8000 metres altitude), low temperatures (to -40 degrees Celsius) and high wind speeds (up to 90 kilometres per hour). The subject is covered by monitoring equipment to record data such as breathing rate, heart rate, blood oxygen content, respiratory gas exchange, body temperature, and heart function. Photographed at a facility of the French national military health research centre (CRSSA), France.
