In this patient, a man of nearly seventy years, the patches hadexisted for a long time and shown little tendency to increase in sizeor to appear elsewhere. As is usual, the skin around the white patcheshad assumed a slightly darker hue and. as the patient was naturallyof a dark complexion and the photograph was taken in the summertime, when the hands were tanned through exposure to the sun, thecontrast was exceptionally well marked.
