Set on the Wirral Peninsula with views over the Dee estuary, Ness offers the enthusiast many horticultural delights including 120 metres of herbaceous borders, award winning show gardens; a Victorian style Potager with many fruit trees and vegetables and Alpine House; a waterfall and water gardens; the largest UK collection of sorbus and most of the 49 known species of birch; plus seasonal surprises an ever increasing collection of snowdrops, and magnificent collections of magnolias, camellias, and rhododendrons. When the Liverpool cotton merchant Arthur Kilpin Bulley began to create a garden in 1898, he laid the foundations of one of the major botanic gardens in the United Kingdom. It is now in the care of the University of Liverpool
