Lillian Gish (1896-1993), American stage and screen actress, 1912. Lillian Gish was one of the stars of early cinema, forming a partnership with the great director DW Griffith. Known as 'the first lady of the silent screen', most of her appearances were in silent pictures and she did not star in a 'talkie' until 1930. Still from the film The Wedding, 1912.
