Being greatlyinterested in electrical experiments, he soon became ac-quainted with Dr. William King, who had a shop on Corn-hill, who manufactured static electrical machines and alsoconstructed and put up lightning rods. Mr. Davis soon found employment with him. His firstjob was constructing and putting up the rod on the courthouse in Boston. This was made of fiat copper also constructed and put up the rods on the buildingsin the Charlestown Navy Yard. In 1835 he began busi-ness for himself at No. II Cornhill, in partnership with thelate John Temple, under the firm name of Davis
