Soutra Aisle, the remains of a medieval hospital on a hilltop in the Scottish Borders

Soutra Aisle, all that remains of a large medieval hospital that operated here from the 13th to 17th Centuries. Run by Augustinian monks and situated at 1200 feet on top of the Lammermuir Hills, near Lauder, beside the main road from Edinburgh to the south. It was once a complex of buidings and gardens covering three quarters of a square mile. An Aisle is a family burial vault and is all that stands here now.
