PlaygroundCommissioner, \ice-Presidentand ^General Manager of HaleBros., Inc., former President ofthe State Harbor Commission, andotherwise prominent in public andcommercial affairs of the city andState for the past twenty-five years,w^as born in Michigan in 1855, theson of jNIarshal and Prudence(Dyckman) Hale. For the greaterpart of his life he has been a resi-dent of California, arriving at Sanlose with his parents in 1873. at therr^e of seven )ears. He attendedthe public schools of that citv andlater the University of the Pacific,from which he w^as graduated asP)achelor of Science in 1886. He de-voted his first energies to upbuildingthe Sacramento branch of Hale Bros., and later assumed charge of theNew York office.
