Daniel Bernoulli (1700-1782). Artwork of the Dutch-Swiss mathematician Daniel Bernoulli. Bernoulli is best remembered for his applications of mathematics to mechanics, particularly fluid mechanics, and for his pioneering work in probability and statistics. He was the earliest writer to attempt to formulate a kinetic theory of gases, and he applied the idea to explain Boyle's law.
