Coastguards try to retrieve packages of cocaine floating in the sea, yesterday estimated to be worth £80 million in an operation involving Border Force, the Police and police helicopter the Newhaven Pilot vessel and the coastguards. Sussex Police said: "Shortly before 6am, police received a report of a large number of packages in the sea off the coast of St Leonards. "In liaison with the Coastguard and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service, the packages were recovered and will be tested to determine what they are." The National Crime Agency (NCA) said almost a tonne of the Class A drug was discovered. Two separate consignments of packages, all in waterproof bags and attached to life jackets to make them float, were located on beaches near St Leonards and Newhaven yesterday, the NCA from Seaford Beach by Newhaven harbour, East Sussex, UK.
