LIEUTENANT COLONEL JOHN W. REIG On the day of mobilizationCompany A and Company F weresent to the Rock Island arsenalfor guard duty. They were re-enforced the next day by Com-panies E, G and H. The othercompanies remained at their ar-mories until April i, when theywere assembled at the State Fairgrounds in Springfield. Snow began to fall shortlyafter the regiment had been as-sembled. The men suffered in-tensely for lack of blankets untilAdjutant General Frank S. Dick-son and Governor Frank , the latter as a privatecitizen, came to the rescue withblankets, heating apparatus, can-vas and medical supplies. The regiment was quarteredin the Dome Building and in the Swine Building on the State Fair grounds fortwo weeks. Then pyramidal tents were issued, and the regiment was estab-lished in Camp Lowden west of the
