Brain membrane vessels. Axial section through the skull showing the blood vessels (red) of two of the brain membranes, the arachnoid mater and pia mater, relative to the upper surfaces of the brain hemispheres. At bottom is a cross-section through the spinal cord of a cow. This anatomical artwork is plate 176 from volume 3 of 'Manuel d'anatomie descriptive du corps humain' (1825). This 5-volume anatomy atlas was produced by French physician and surgeon Jules Germain Cloquet (1790-1883). The illustrations were by Haincelin. Volume 3 illustrated the anatomy of the human nervous system.
