PENDLETON, Calif. (June 13, 2018) Seaman Steven Scheerer, assigned to Beach Master Unit (BMU) 1, signals to a landing craft air cushion (LCAC), attached to Assault Craft Unit (ACU) 5, on the beaches of Camp Pendleton, Calif., during composite training unit exercise (COMPTUEX). COMPTUEX is the final pre-deployment exercise that certifies the combined Essex Amphibious Ready Group and 13th Marine Expeditionary Unit’s abilities to conduct military operations at sea and project power ashore during their upcoming deployment in summer of 2018.
