Medical nanorobots. Computer artwork of medical nanorobots (grey) attacking cancer cells (lower right) within the body. Several red blood cells (small red discs) are also seen. Nanorobots are robots on the cellular scale. In the future, they could be introduced into the body to hunt down and kill abnormal cells on an individual basis. As such, they would act as an artificial immune system. As well as attacking cancer cells, they could also kill pathogens and break up blood clots. Several types of nanorobot are seen here, including ones that drill into the tumour, one that injects a toxin (centre right) and one (upper left) that sends videos of the scene to surgeons.
