George Davis Snell (1903-1996), US geneticist and Nobel laureate, in a laboratory. Snell shared the 1980 Nobel Prize for Physiology or Medicine with Jean Dausset and Baruj Benacerraf. The share of the Nobel was awarded for Snell's work on immunology at the cellular level, in particular for his discovery of the major histocompatibility complex (MHC). Photograph published in 1970.
