Pine Island Bay in West Antarctica.

March 14, 2010 - In West Antarctica, Pine Island Bay carves deeply into the Walgreen (left) and Eights (right) Coasts. Eights Coasts terminates in the Abbott Ice Shelf, which is sandwiched between the continent and Thurston Island. Thurston Island is the land at the tip of the peninsula that sticks out on into the Amundsen Sea on the right side of the image. The Walker Mountains on Thurston Island rise up out of the surrounding ice shelf. To the left of Pine Island Bay, another piece of ice juts out into the water. This is the Thwaites Ice Tongue.
