Opticks and Perspective

Engraving of a large oval with text which compares the two natures of optics: "perspective" and "speculiar." Beneath oval is a scene showing a woman and a man learning to view from perspective; and a woman is sitting with a cherub at the base of a pillar. Optics is the branch of physics which involves the behavior and properties of light, including its interactions with matter and the construction of instruments that use or detect it. Optics usually describes the behavior of visible, ultraviolet, and infrared light. Perspective, in context of vision and visual perception, is the way in which objects appear to the eye based on their spatial attributes; or their dimensions and the position of the eye relative to the objects. There are two main meanings of the term: linear perspective and aerial perspective.
