Sunset dominance display, Hippo Pool, Grumeti Serengeti Tented Camp, Tanzania

The rains early in the year in the Serengeti greens the landscape and gives rich grazing to the animals. This triggers the great migration of the herds of wildebeest and zebra from the south towards the north of the country. The Grumeti river floods in the heavy rains and sometimes becomes impassible, and the hippo pools fill up with water. Hippos became increasingly active towards sunset and the time that they leave the water to graze on the grasses on shore. The open mouth is a dominance display.
