Conde illustrated the tales of the legendary Greek fablist Aesop, including the story of the Mischievous Dog, with its moral "Notoriety is often mistaken for fame." Conde published his drawings in 1905 in New York. Aesop was a sixth-century legendary composer of Greek fables, whose characters were animals. Each fable had a moral. It was said that Aesop was a slave and had been freed by his master.
