View, looking east across road junction, of brown brick Carnegie Hall, corner 7th Avenue West 57th Street, New York City, USA
Carnegie Hall, designed in an Italian Renaissance architectural style by William Burnet Tuthill, was built by philanthropist Andrew Carnegie in 1891. It is one of the few buildings in New York built entirely of masonry without a steel frame. It is built of narrow Roman bricks of mellow ochre hue with details of terracotta and brownstone. It is a prestigious world venue for both classical and popular music.
