Golden cowry shell. The shell of the golden cowry (Lyncina aurantium), a rare species of sea snail in the family Cypraeidae. It is found on tropical reefs of the Pacific Ocean. It normally hides in the coral during daylight and comes out to feed at night. In the past on the Fiji Islands these shells were worn as a symbol of rank.
