Fig. 3), and finally they had, in the laterperiod most commonly, a curious ornament upon the forehead,which covered almost the whole space between the ears andthe eyes, and was composed of a number of minute bosses, col-ored, like the tassels of the breast omament,*^ alternately redand blue. Each horse appears to have been driven by two reins —oneattached to either end of the bit in the ordinary manner, andeach passed through a ring or loop in the harness, wherebythe rein was kept down and a stronger purchase secured tothe driver. The shape of the bit within the mouth, if we mayjudge by the single instance of an actual bit which remains tous, bore a near resemblance to the modern snaf
