18/05/22 Great British Car Journey’s CEO Richard Usher The Rolls-Royce owned by Lord Baden-Powell, is now on permanent public display for the first time, after arriving at The Great British Car Journey, Ambergate, The Scouting emblem - etched with the words ‘Be Prepared’ - is fitted to the grill in place of the usual Spirit of Ecstasy or 'Flying Lady’. The Rolls-Royce owned by Lord Baden-Powell, is now on permanent public display for the first time, after arriving at its new Derbyshire home, The Great British Car Journey. The 20 horse power model was presented to the founder and chief Scout at the Jamboree marking the Scouting movement’s 21st birthday in 1929. The limousine-bodied car is nicknamed Jam Roll - from Jamboree and Rolls-Royce. The Scouting emblem - etched with the words ‘Be Prepared’ - is fitted to the grill in place of the usual Spirit of Ecstasy or 'Flying Lady’. Since Lord Baden-Powell’s death in 1941 the car has been owned by many private owners, occasionally being lent to the Scouts. Following the setting-up of B-P Jam Roll Ltd, the car was purchased and brought to the Rolls-Royce Heritage Centre in Derby where it was sympathetically restored and stored there for a number of years. Following its closure, the car has found a new home at great British Car Journey. The company has now given the car, on permanent loan, to The Great British Car Journey where it is being displayed alongside more than 135 British-built and manufactured cars which have long since disappeared from the roads, including the Austin Seven, Metro, Morris Minor and Ford Escort. Richard Usher, the classic car attraction’s CEO said: "This is a seminal car with a very special place in not only Britain’s heritage but the Scout movement throughout the world".
