(Lugger); and Pelee Island, Canada. Note.—In the southwest this species is replaced by a few others of the same genus and of very similar appearance and habits, but not injurious to the same extent. T. compacia Casey, according to Cockerel 1, lireeds in Datum meteloklci^, and is common in the Mesilla Valley of New Mexico. It has not beeii reported to damage potato, perhaps because this vegetable is not nnich grown in that State. AVithout doubt all the species of Trichobaris feed on Solanacefe. The potato stalk weevil is also known as potato stalk l)orer, and several other species of insects, the larvae of moths those which produce cutworms, are sometimes known by the same name.
