Put them in the ground out of doors in April and May. Some will bloom in June, and all during the same year as planted. These include many of our most attractive plants for both foliage and flowers. As a rule they should be planted out of doors after the weather has become somewhat settled and warm. We would call attention to Cannas. The wonderful improvement to which this popular bedding plant has been developed makes it today one of the best all summer flowering plants both for flowers and foliage. Its ornamental leaves varying from light pea green to darkest brilliant maroons and bronzes can be used most effectively both in borders or beds. The flower spikes have been developed to enormous size and individual flowers sometimes measure 2 inches across. They are of most bril- liant colors including all shades from creamy white through pure lemon yellow, orange, salmon, pink, scarlet to deep red velvety maroons. Many of the flowers arc tinged with gold, some spotted and others striped until there is a gorgeous display which continues in bloom from early summer until cut by frost.
