Oxford, Oxfordshire, UK; Brasenose College was founded in 1509, with the College library and chapel - shown here- added in the mid-seventeenth century. Its odd name is believed to derive from the name of a decorative brass or bronze knocker that adorned the main hall's door. Here we see some of the diverse and imaginative gargoyles on the exterior wall facing Oxford's High Street. Since the founding of the college, they have been keeping a watchful eye on comings and goings.
