Composed of a triangular piece of linen, fourinches wide at its base and ten inches long, andof a triangular shape in order to correspond withthe upper and internal part of the thigh; to thebase of this is sewed a horizontal band, of abouta yard and a half in length, and to its summit avertical one three-quarters of a yard long. MINOR SURGERY. 97 Application. — The extremities of the horizon-tal band are carried round the pelvis on either sidefar as the sacrum, as re-. whence they areturned and tied in abow, above the pubes,while the vertical band,passing downward be-tween the thigh andscrotum, comes up overthe outside of the thigh,and is attached to thetransverse portion ofthe bandage. Use. — To retaindressings upon thegroin of a patient con-fined in bed, as in poul-ticing of buboes, and after operating for hernia,& is one of the best bandages that can be em-ployed for retaining dressings to the groin, whenit is requisite to renew them frequently, or whereit is difficult to move or raise the patient, as with thisit is only necessary to untie the vertical band anddraw it from under the thigh, in order to lay openthe whole groin to our view; and this may bereadily done without the least movement on thepart of the patient.
