Many and varied were the objectionsto the scheme, which seemed seriousenough at the time, but which, viewedin the light of after experience, lostmuch of their weight. In one township in the NorthRiding, the leading roads, including oneroad, running its whole length of 14miles from north to south, were at thistime already county roads. It was amoral impossibility that municipalities,situate like the above, should in theproposed distribution receive their fullequivalent of county favors. It, there-tore, redounds greatly to tlieir creditthat when the vote was taken the rate-poyers of these munioipalities with a shortly after they were taken over bythe county, it is fair to assimie that alarge and increasing
