Preparations are underway for the festivities Pahela Boishakh. People make crafts for the celebrations. Pahela Boishakh (the first day of the Bangla month) can be followed back to its origins during the Mughal period when Emperor Akbar introduced the Bangla calendar to streamline tax collection while in the course of time it became part of Bengali culture and tradition.
