Haematology. A sample of human blood being spread on a microscope slide. The thin film of blood is allowed to dry and is then stained using a Romanowsky solution. The slide may then be placed into a microscope for detailed examination of the blood cells. This is an important diagnostic technique in many blood disorders including anaemias, leukaemias and parasitic infections such as malaria.
